You are of course wondering why it is so important to keep track of your blood glucose? Well, the whole idea of keeping track of your risk factors when you have prediabetes and/or diabetes is to reduce the risk of so-called diabetes complications.

These can be divided into complications (sequelae) which are primarily dependent on blood glucose and the risks which are mainly linked to the metabolic syndrome.

The glucose elevation mainly affects the small vessels in the fundus of the eye and the small vessels that supply sensory nerves. But both high blood pressure in large arteries and high glucose levels work together and negatively affect kidney function.

Thus, two potential complications are eye- and kidney damage. We want to avoid that.
